1. Where is the Destin Library?

The library is located on the extreme West end of Destin at 150 Sibert Avenue. If you are driving from the East, take Highway 98 heading West, turn right on Calhoun Avenue at the foot of the Marler Bridge, and bear right onto Sibert Avenue. If you are driving from the West, take Highway 98 heading East, turn left at the foot of the Marler Bridge onto Calhoun Avenue, and bear right onto Sibert Avenue. We are located on the right.

2. How do I get a library card?

Okaloosa County residents may obtain a library card free of charge. A picture ID and proof of permanent residency (i.e. property record search, utility bill) are required. Non-Okaloosa County residents who live in the Florida panhandle area may obtain a library card for an annual fee of $40 per family. A picture ID is required. Seasonal visitors may purchase a temporary six-month card for $30 per person or a one-year card for $60 per person.

3. How do I access my online catalog account?

Every Destin Library patron is automatically given an account in our online catalog system.

To access it, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to readokaloosa.org.

2. Click on “Sign In” located the upper right-hand corner of the website header.

3. Type your 14-digit barcode number (located on the back of your library card) into the first box.

4. Type your PIN into the second box. Your default pin (to be used for your first sign-on) will be the last four digits of the phone number on your account. You may change your pin after your first sign-on.

5. Click the "Sign In" button.

4. How do I place a "hold" on library materials?

To place a hold, please log into your account. Locate the material you would like to request and select the blue “Place Hold” box. Be sure to select your “Pick-Up” library so your materials will be delivered to the library of your choice.

5. How do I renew my library materials?

To renew your materials, simply log into your account and select “Checked Out Titles” from the list on the left. Click the blue “Renew” next to each item you would like to renew. Items that have been placed on hold by other patrons cannot be renewed.

6. How do I request an interlibrary loan?

To request materials from other libraries in the state of Florida, please contact Sandee Kelly at (850) 837-8572. 

7. How do I access Ancestry.com?

You must use the library’s designated Ancestry.com computer in the library and have a valid Okaloosa County library card to access Ancestry.com. You may call the library to reserve a two-hour block of time. 

8. How do I sign up for technology help?

9. How can I support the Destin Library?

The Friends of the Destin Library is a non-profit organization established to support the library. You may join the Friends for an annual fee of $20 or make a one-time donation. Donations are used to provide the library with equipment, books, DVDs and much more.

The Destin Library accepts monetary donations through the City of Destin and they may be made in person at the library. We accept book donations (except textbooks) if they have been published within 2 years and are in good condition. We will also accept DVDs/Blu-Rays and audiobooks if in excellent condition. 

10. How do I reserve a meeting/study room?

The Calhoun Room and Small Conference Room are available for community groups and cultural and educational programs. A valid Okaloosa County library card is required to reserve these rooms. 

The two small study rooms, digital media lab, and computer instruction lab are available to the public. Please contact the library at 850-837-8572 for more information.

For people needing a private space to study or work, we also have several tables with chairs as well as study carrels. 

11. How do I use the library's computer services?

The library has 14 public access computers, a computer instruction/testing lab with 9 computers, and we have free public wi-fi. The public computers are available to everyone. 

12. Can I volunteer at the Destin Library?

There are limited volunteer opportunities at the library. Please contact Skylar Dennis at 850-837-8572 if you are interested.
