The Friends Guild of the Destin Library is looking forward to having you join them for programs they are hosting this fall. Drawing from our local residents, they have both informative and interesting topics for everyone to enjoy.

On Tuesday, September 10 at 2:00 p.m. Kathy Marler Blue, the Executive Director of the Destin History and Fishing Museum, will present “On the Path to Paradise.” Come learn about the early families from a fourth generation Marler and hear what makes Destin the world-class resort it is today.

The Independent Film Series resumes on Tuesday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. with “The Music Man.” Adapted from the Broadway musical, Robert Preston plays Harold Hill, the traveling con man who lands in River City, Iowa and proposes to form a band on the pretense of saving the youth of the town. Shirley Jones also stars as the suspicious librarian, Marian Paroo.

“The Library in your Pocket” is an informative one hour workshop led by Megan Fontaine of the Destin Library on Tuesday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. Learn everything you need to know to fully utilize the library’s two digital collections, Overdrive and Recorded Books (RB) Digital. By the end of the session you will have downloaded both apps on your personal reading device, logged in using your library card, and checked out your first ebook, audiobook, or magazine.

On October 15 at 2:00 p.m. the Independent Film Series continues with “The Bookshop.” Emily Mortimer plays a widow in the 1950s who risks everything to fulfill her dream of opening a bookstore in the sleepy, seaside town of Hardborough, England, even though the town doesn’t necessarily want one. Also starring Patricia Clarkson and Bill Nighy.

There are more events scheduled in November and December, so stay tuned for details. If you have any questions about the Friends Guild or any of the events, please stop by the Destin Library or give them a call at 850-837-8572.
