Registration is now open for exciting and challenging summer teen programs hosted by the Destin Library. Among them are three Code Camps designed for students entering the 6th through 12th grades:
• Code Camp: Python Power, June 3-7, 2:00 – 3:30 pm Build your own Python-based dungeon crawl, complete with monsters, mayhem, and mystery. New programmers will focus on creating a text-based adventure; more advanced programmers are invited to try incorporating graphics as well. The Library can provide computer equipment to 11 participants. Participants who can provide their own laptop PC (no tablets) are also welcome to register.
• Code Camp: Explore the Scratch-a-Verse, July 15-19, 2:00 – 3:30 pm Using Scratch's easy-to-learn visual coding interface, participants will design and code an open-world RPG-style video game, complete with moving graphics! The Library can provide computer equipment to 11 participants. Participants who can provide their own laptop PC (no tablets) are also welcome to register.
• Code Camp: Lego Mindstorms Mission to Mars, August 5-9, 2:00 – 3:30 pm Challenge yourself to program a LEGO Mars Rover to complete a series of tasks on our simulated Mars space base. Teams will have four days to decide how best to negotiate the Martian terrain using the LEGO Mindstorms programming software and iOS Mindstorms Commander app. The Library can provide LEGO Mindstorms kits for up to 8 teams of 13 participants. Participants who can provide their own Mindstorms kits are also welcome to register.
In addition to the Code Camps, the second round of the OCPLC Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Tournament will be held at the library on June 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. This event is open to players of all ages and skill levels. Registration is required. Additional gaming consoles, including our Oculus Rift VR, will be available for use between rounds.
