[ARCHIVED] Destin’s Pay-to-Park Program Goes to $5 Flat Fee

Marler Street Parking sign and parking lot

Destin, Fla. – Beginning on Monday, March 25th, the City of Destin will begin charging a $5.00 flat fee per 24 hours for parking in the Destin Harbor District. The new rate, which was approved by City Council on March 4th, will go into effect at the Destin Community Center, Destin Library (after business hours), Marler Street and Zerbe Street parking lots. Parking spaces are on a first come, first serve basis and patrons are not guaranteed a spot if they leave and come back within the paid timeframe. Pay-to-Park is not required for handicap parking or vehicles with properly displayed handicap identification. Disabled Veteran tags are included. Code Compliance Officers will enforce the ordinance and violators will be ticketed at a rate of $33 per violation. Illegally parked vehicles in the right-of-way shall be fined and/or towed. There were 42 vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents that occurred on US 98 in 2018. The City of Destin strongly encourages pedestrians to obey all traffic laws and use marked crosswalks and traffic signals.

The app-based parking system, PassportParking, was introduced in May 2017 at the Marler Street parking lot as a pilot program. The goal was to test the system for functionality and viability, as well as to generate revenue to make public parking improvements throughout the city. The improvements of the Zerbe Street parking lot were made with the parking revenue. “This will improve public parking opportunities in the Harbor District and the revenue will be used to offset future parking needs and improvements,” said Deputy City Manager Webb Warren.

The PassportParking app allows users to:

  • Pay for parking
  • Monitor their parking
  • Extend time remotely
  • View all parking history
  • Receive email receipts

The app is free to download from the iPhone App Store and Android Google Play. Users can also manage their parking online at For individuals that prefer not to use the app or online service to pay for parking, a phone number is provided on signs in the Zerbe St. and Marler St. parking lots that allow for payment over the phone.

If you have questions regarding the use of these lots, please contact Destin City Hall at (850) 837-4242.
