Based on information received regarding Hurricane Michael from the National Weather Service, the National Hurricane Center, and Okaloosa County Emergency Management Department, as authorized by Destin City Code of Ordinances (Sections 8-51 through 8-56), Mayor Gary Jarvis declared that a state of civil emergency exists within the City of Destin. The reasons for concern are the heavy winds, rainfall, and storm surge projected to occur in the Destin area within the next 36 to 48 hours.

City facilities will close at noon on Tues., Oct. 9, and remain closed Wed., Oct. 10. Offices will reopen on Thurs., Oct. 11, unless otherwise noticed.

All city recreation activities and city committee meetings for Tues., Oct. 9, and Wed., Oct. 10, are canceled.

All fees at Joe’s Bayou Boat Launch are waived until further notice.

An evacuation notice has been issued by Okaloosa County Emergency Management for Evacuation Zones A, B and C. A map outlining these zones and evacuation routes can be found in the city’s Hurricane Information Guide.
