The City of Destin will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Gordon as it tracks northwest and share pertinent information via the city’s website and social media pages. City staff is currently making preparations for heavy rains and wind. This includes securing public property and checking/clearing storm drains. The city advises residents to make any preparations necessary, also.

All city facilities will close at 5 p.m. today. This includes the library and Community Center. Also, all recreation activities planned for this evening are canceled.

Update from the Okaloosa County Emergency Notification System: The emergency operations center is at level 3, monitoring.  We will not be activating the emergency operations center for tropical storm Gordon.  We may experience some storm squalls, starting around mid-day, into the night. The national weather service stated we should not see sustained tropical force winds.

Please stay tuned to the National Weather Service for detailed updates. Currently, flash flooding, storm surge, dangerous surf and rip currents, tornadoes, and strong winds are all potential impacts.

The city’s Hurricane Information Guide is available to download with helpful information on what to do before, during and after a storm.
