[ARCHIVED] 2019 Business Tax Receipt Renewal Period Ends September 30

The City of Destin’s 2019 local Business Tax Receipt renewal period ends Sept. 30, 2018. Businesses MUST renew Business Tax Receipts by September 30 to avoid late fees.


Renewal notices are being mailed to registered businesses in the city this month. To renew a local Business Tax Receipt by mail, send checks to the City of Destin, 4200 Indian Bayou Trail, Destin, FL 32541, or renew in person at the Destin City Hall Annex located at 4100 Indian Bayou Trail between 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are accepted. Please contact the city’s Building Division at 654-1119 (prompt 1) or email btr@cityofdestin.com with any questions.


Do you need a City of Destin Business Tax Receipt? (Reference: Code of Ordinances, Chapter 13, Article 2, Section 13-27)


  • The city council has determined that a reasonable local business tax for the privilege of engaging in or managing any business, profession or occupation is necessary and in the public interest. No person shall engage in or manage any business, occupation or profession within the corporate limits of the city without first obtaining from the city a license for each business, occupation or professional activity. The local business tax is levied on:

    • Any person who maintains a permanent business location or branch office within said municipality, for the privilege of engaging in or managing any business within its jurisdiction.
    • Any person who maintains a permanent business location or branch office within said municipality, for the privilege of engaging in or managing any profession or occupation within its jurisdiction.
    • Any person who does not qualify under the provisions of subsection (1) or subsection (2) and who transacts any business or engages in any occupation or profession in interstate commerce, if such license tax is not prohibited by Section 8 of Article 1 of the United States Constitution.


NOTE: Having an Okaloosa County Business Tax Receipt DOES NOT take the place of a City of Destin Business Tax Receipt. Businesses that fall under any or all of the bulleted list above must have both a county and city Business Tax Receipt.
