The City of Destin has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its FY18 budget presentation. This is the 14th year the city has received this award.
The award represents a significant achievement by the city, reflecting the commitment of the city’s council and staff in meeting the highest principles of government budgeting. In order to receive the award, the City of Destin had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Those guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:
•a policy document
•a financial plan
•an operations guide
•a communications tool
Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
A Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation was presented to the city’s Finance Director Bragg Farmer for the achievement.
“We work hard to provide a detailed, transparent budget to the citizens of Destin,” said Farmer. “It is important to show that the city’s tax dollars are being spent efficiently and effectively, and this award represents that we are doing that very well.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit, professional association serving more than 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
