[ARCHIVED] City of Destin Land Use Attorney Submits Resignation

The City of Destin’s Land Use Attorney Scott Shirley submitted his resignation from the city today, Oct. 12, 2016. He will officially resign his position as the city’s land use attorney on Dec. 31, 2016. Shirley has been a contract employee of the city for more than 15 years.

Shirley’s resignation letter states, “It has been my greatest professional honor to have been given the opportunity to serve the City of Destin these past 15 plus years. Further, it has been a continuing privilege to work with a capable, talented and well-qualified staff. Finally, over the years I have been blessed with having enjoyed an excellent working relationship with the elected officials of the city.”

Shirley’s letter identifies that his commute from Tallahassee to attend city meetings has become increasingly difficult. His resignation will allow him to give more attention to other legal engagements and to his personal life.

“Mr. Shirley has been a valuable member of the Destin Team for many years, and he will be greatly missed by staff,” said City Manager Carisse LeJeune. “The city is losing a tremendous resource and asset, and we wish him the very best in all his future endeavors.”
