[ARCHIVED] Heritage Run Pump Project Groundbreaking

Heritage Run Pump Project Groundbreaking Invite FINAL.jpg

The City of Destin will break ground on the Heritage Run Pump Project on Thursday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at 761 Vintage Circle.

The city received a $500,000 state grant to improve stormwater utilities in the Heritage Run subdivision thanks to the help of Se. Don Gaetz and Rep. Matt Gaetz.

Historically, the Heritage Run subdivision has experienced flooding from rainfall and tidal surges because of the area’s low elevation. The stormwater system currently in place is a gravity flow system with a tide gate that is closed when the elevation of the bay rises. The tide gate must be closed to stop tidal surges which prevents outflow of stormwater from the affected properties. The new proposed pump system will allow closure of the tide gate while still allowing the system to pump treated stormwater into the inlet, lessening the chances of flooding the subdivision.

The $500,000 grant is approximately half of the cost of the Heritage Run stormwater pump upgrade. The city will cover the remaining cost.
