The City of Destin will be one step closer to adopting a new plan for future development when the council meets in special session on Wed., Dec. 16, 2015. The council will be asked to approve an ordinance which includes the Envision Destin Plan.
This is a plan the Local Planning Agency approved unanimously on Nov. 5 and voted to recommend its adoption by the city council. This is a blue print for how the city will grow and develop over the next several years, as well as what Destin will look like. There are significant changes in how big and how tall new buildings can be as well as guidance on where the highest population concentrations will go. There are also dramatic proposals for redesigning Harbor Blvd. and the Town Center CRA.
If the council approves the plan (via Ordinance 15-17-PC) in the special meeting on Dec. 16, the plan will be forwarded to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) for review. Pending approval by the DEO, the plan will receive final adoption by the city council in early 2016. Once the plan receives final adoption by the council, the Land Development Code will be amended to be consistent with the newly adopted plan.
