[ARCHIVED] Destin Library Set to Celebrate 75th Anniversary

Save the Date Final.jpg

The Destin Library will celebrate its 75th Anniversary with an open house and ice cream social on Friday, August 21, beginning at 1 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

The library was established in 1940, by a group of dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to promote reading through the sharing of books within the community. The library’s original collection was donated by Al Fox and Fred Zerbe and his wife Donalda. Many of these books are on display in the reading area.

On August 21, staff and *Friends members will turn time back to the 1940’s. Gone for the day will be items we all take for granted such as: computers, DVDs, Books on CD, Microfilm, Copier machines and more. Replacing these will be bulletin boards and displays that depict vintage books, activities, games from the era.

A “back to future” room will allow visitors to “move from the 40’s to the present” as a way of highlighting all that has changed in 75 years.

1940’s music will be played throughout the library and tours of the library and its grounds will be provided by volunteers and staff for interested visitors.
