The City of Destin has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2013.
This is the 19th year in a row the city has received the Certificate of Achievement. It is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
“One of our highest priorities is to maintain transparency and an accurate account of taxpayer dollars,” said Bragg Farmer, finance director, City of Destin. “We owe our citizens an explanation of how their taxes are used, and this annual financial report is a testament to our commitment to do just that.”
The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
The GFOA is a nonprofit, professional organization serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
