[ARCHIVED] City of Destin Announces 2013 Employee and Leader of the Year Awards

The City of Destin recently awarded Corey Anderson the 2013 Employee of the Year Award and Webb Warren the 2013 Leader of the Year Award. These two awards are the city’s top staff honors. Anderson’s role in the city is Geographic Information Systems Manager and Warren is the Information Systems and Technology Director.

The awards are given annually and recipients are selected from the year’s employee of the quarter nominations, as well as from write-ins by staff. A committee reviews all staff nominations and makes the selections. Mayor Seevers and the Destin City Council publicly recognized Anderson and Warren at the Jan. 6 city council meeting.

“It’s an honor to be named Employee of the Year,” said Anderson. “I enjoy working for a city that has drive and passion to serve its citizens, visitors and businesses. My co-workers are great to work with, and we all work as a team to achieve the city’s mission and goals.”

Anderson began service to the city on March 6, 2006. As the GIS Manager, he establishes and tests maps and thematic layers. He provides inter-departmental support to Engineering, Public Services, Planning, Building, Code Enforcement and Emergency Management.

His work provides mapping for zoning, land use, roads, stormwater structures, fire hydrants, property boundaries, sidewalks, 911 addresses and much more. He has also assumed additional responsibilities of IT support and he is a volunteer school crossing guard at Destin Elementary School.

Anderson received a number of comments from his peers including the following:

• “His work takes him to every department in the city. He helps keep all computers and copiers working and is always happy to help those in need.”
• “He is very responsive and prioritizes his work to ensure he can help those with urgent projects.”
• “He is dedicated in helping the organization succeed. This is evident as he has been a volunteer on the Customer Service QIT (Quality Improvement Team) for many years.”
• “Always ready to fill in as a school crossing guard to ensure the safety of children. This is another example of a significant contribution to the team and organization as a whole.”
• “Always ready to serve; to get the job done with a smile on his face.”

Warren is in his eighth year of service with the City of Destin. His is responsible for management, supervision and administration of the city’s information and technology services including infrastructure, systems administration, geographical information systems and public information. He provides information analysis and helps departments rework business processes to align with strategic and departmental goals.

Warren said, “I am proud to be a part of Team Destin, and I am grateful for the recognition of Leader of the Year. The City of Destin is a wonderful organization. I see great things in our future, in technology and every other aspect of our community.”

His peers had this to say about him:

• “Works long hours, has extreme patience, is knowledgeable and is a leader.”
• “Brought a diverse team together providing an excellent product.”
• “Great personality and willingness to do whatever it takes to help the city succeed.”
• “I am honored and privileged to work with this individual. Strong leadership characteristics have shown through on many projects, as well as a great personality and willingness to do whatever it takes to help the city succeed.”
