The United Way of Okaloosa & Walton Counties was presented with a proclamation by Mayor Sam Seevers at the Destin City Council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17, in honor of its 20th Annual Day of Caring in Destin, taking place on Friday, Sept. 20.

The Destin event chair, Kristin Taylor, and Ronda Davenport of the United Way received the proclamation on behalf of the organization.

The United Way Day of Caring is a "call to action" to mobilize local businesses, employees of various corporations, youth groups, civic and philanthropic groups, and individuals to "celebrate the spirit of volunteerism" in their own community.

“Our city is blessed to have the United Way play such an active role in the community,” said Seevers. “Volunteerism is very near and dear to my heart, and I am incredibly proud to see the Day of Caring in Destin touch so many lives!”

The United Way of Okaloosa & Walton Counties, along with partner agencies are vital to local individuals and families. The United Way serves one in four individuals in Okaloosa and Walton Counties to provide basic needs, help children and youth achieve their potential through education, help families become financially stable and independent, and promote good health by improving people' s health and wellness.

The United Way of Okaloosa & Walton Counties is mobilizing volunteers throughout our community to help many local organizations, non-profits, clients of non-profits, schools, and local parks, with much-needed volunteer assistance. The Day of Caring demonstrates that volunteers' efforts are vital to the well being of our community.

On September 20, 2013, United Way of Okaloosa & Walton Counties, Inc., will conduct the 20th Annual Day of Caring for Destin to celebrate the spirit of giving through service to better the lives of those in our community through "hands on caring." The event will see more than 20 companies with over 140 volunteers and 13 partner agencies working together to complete 30 projects in Destin.
