[ARCHIVED] City of Destin Council and Staff Bid Farewell to Councilman Skip Overdier

Destin, Fla. – Councilman Skip Overdier resigned on April 23rd, 2021, from the Destin City Council, due to selling his home within the city limits of Destin and will relocate to Texas. Overdier was elected to the city council in 2018 and served on multiple local and regional committees to include the Okaloosa County Tourist Development Council, Northwest Florida Regional Transportation Planning Organization, Okaloosa County Economic Development Council and West Florida Regional Planning Committee. After moving to Destin in 2011, Overdier has held multiple retired military and civic leadership roles and was an active chamber ambassador with the Destin Chamber of Commerce, the Destin Rotary Club, Crispy Warriors and much more. 

Councilman Skip Overdier stated, “I’ll always treasure the time I spent here and hope each and every one of you continue to do the good things you do for this community. It’s folks like you that make this the special place that it is.”

“Skip has served the community well and it was a pleasure serving alongside him. He always worked with council and staff for the betterment of this city, and we will miss his leadership,” stated Destin City Manager, Lance Johnson.

Overdier’s term ends in November 2022 and the Destin City Council will discuss the process of filling the vacancy during the May 3rd council meeting. Destin’s City Charter states that when a council seat is vacated a new member must be elected no sooner than 60 days and no longer than 90 days from the date it becomes empty.
