Biographical Information
Jim Bagby was elected to the Destin City Council in July 2021 to complete the term of former Councilman Skip Overdier. He grew up near Tyler, Texas. He and his wife Jennie of 35 years, have two daughters: Sara and Jennifer. Jennie is the District Developmental Evaluator for Pre-K children in the Okaloosa County School District. Sara lives in the New York City area and is a consultant for Delta Partners, a private equity group based in Dubai. Jennifer lives in Oxford, Mississippi and is in her second year as a law student at Ole Miss. Jim has a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from West Point and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Western Kentucky University, where he was recognized as the distinguished graduate student in the Government Department.
Experience
Jim’s work experience includes 24 years in the United States Army with a variety of operational and staff assignments throughout the world. His last assignment was as the Chief, Joint Support Element at Hurlburt Field. Prior to becoming a licensed realtor with the Premier Property Group, he was and continues working for One Seagrove Place as the General Manager. Prior to One Seagrove Place he worked at Visit South Walton as the Executive Director and was the Town Manager of Rosemary Beach for nearly 10 years. Jim has previously served two terms on the Destin City Council; served as the Chairman (3 years) and Vice Chairman (1 ½ years) of Veterans Florida; served on the Walton County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; and several other boards and committees.
Community Involvement
Jim is currently a member Northwest Florida State College Foundation Board of Directors and is a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Resurrection Catholic Church. His hobbies include reading, golfing and riding his Harley Davidson.
