The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Highway 98 widening project in Destin is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 5. This project is managed by FDOT and is slated to take 1,220 days to complete (November 2020).
Construction will begin on the west end of the project near Airport Rd. with median demolition and widening the existing eastbound travel lanes toward the median and the south side of the eastbound roadway. The retaining pond just west of Scenic Hwy. 98 will be excavated and the retaining wall adjacent to the roadway and median fill will be constructed with the material removed from the pond. Other work, including street lighting and utility relocation, will also take place.
