Teen Summer Activities

Community Service Hours

The Destin Library provides opportunities throughout the school year and in the summer for young adults, ages 16 or older, to earn community service hours in accordance with high school graduation requirements.

Interested YA’s are typically scheduled for no less than 2 hours and no more than 4 hours of community service per week. Days of the week and times are coordinated through the Reference and Youth Services Librarian.

Community service activities can include assisting with collection maintenance, reading to young children, assisting patrons in locating materials, helping patrons with computer usage, providing support for summer programming for children and young adults and much, much more.

Young adults interested in this program are encouraged to contact the library at 837-8572 or email Reference and Youth Services Librarian Will Rogers at wrogers@cityofdestin.com.

PSAs that ROCK!

This summer the Destin Library will host a six week series of hands-on workshops for young adults, ages 13 to 15 years old, focused on the concept of audio public service announcements; what they are, how they work, how they are designed and produced. Workshop participants will individually or as a team create at least three 15 to 30 second audio PSAs, with appropriate artwork, on a topic relevant to their peers and community libraries. In this workshop participants will gain an understanding of and appreciation of PSAs, learn to use available media lab resources (Audacity Sound Editing/Microsoft Office and/or Adobe Creative Suite software) and create library related PSAs for use by the Destin Library during the program year. The program will conclude with a student showcase of PSAs on July 16th. Due to the nature of this workshop series, participants will be required to schedule additional Media Lab usage on dates other than those listed within series.

Parents of children interested in participating in this program are required to register them in advance. Click here to register.
